Question:

May Allah be good to you and bless you, O virtuous Shaykh. The questioner, Umm Mu’adh from Riyadh, asks: What is the ruling on using artificial eyelashes to beautify oneself for one’s husband?

Answer:

Artificial eyelashes are not permissible because they resemble hair extensions. The Prophet ﷺ cursed the woman who joins hair extensions to her own and the woman who requests to have them joined. If these eyelashes are as I imagine them—where black threads like hair placed over the natural lashes to make them appear thick for beautifying the eye—then they fall under the category of extensions for which the Prophet ﷺ cursed the one who performs it on her head. However, if “eyelashes” refers to coloring the hair of the eyelids, then that is not forbidden.
