Question:

What is your opinion regarding a situation where the wife requests sexual intercourse and the husband refuses her, causing her to become angry? Does the husband deserve this same warning (of being cursed)?

Answer:

He does not deserve [that specific curse]. However, it is obligatory upon the husband to consort with his wife with kindness and to have intercourse with her according to established custom.

This varies depending on the woman, the man, and the individual’s circumstances; a person who is preoccupied is not like one who is free, and one who is ill is not like one who is healthy… and so on.

We say: the woman certainly has a right to request intercourse, but it is not identical to the right of the man; for he is the one who holds the primary prerogative in this matter. Nevertheless, she has a right as well.
