Question:
May Allah be good to you, O Sheikh, and bless you. A questioner to the program says in his question—the questioner is Sudanese: ‘Virtuous Sheikh, people say that the Messenger was created from light ($nur$). Is this statement correct?
Answer:
This statement is batil (false). Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, is from the children of Adam; the lineage of his fathers and grandfathers is well-known. He himself, peace and blessings be upon him, explicitly stated what Allah commanded him to, for Allah Almighty said to him: ‘Say (O Muhammad ﷺ): “I am only a man like you. It has been inspired to me that your Ilah (God) is One Ilah (God i.e. Allah).”‘ [Al-Kahf, 18:110].
And he, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said about himself: ‘I am only a human being like you; I forget just as you forget.’
Thus, he, peace and blessings be upon him, was created from clay, as is the case for all of mankind (the children of Adam). Those who were created from light are the angels. Indeed, created beings are of three types: a group created from fire, which is Iblis (Satan) and his offspring; a group created from light, which are the angels; and a group created from clay, which is Adam and his children. There is no fourth category.
Therefore, this narration (hadith), report, or famous saying that our Prophet—may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family—was created from light is a lie and has no basis. Yes.
