Question:
Give us a fatwa (legal ruling)—may you be rewarded [by Allah]—regarding Freemasonry, may Allah reward you with goodness? And what is the ruling on someone who joins this group?
Answer:
Freemasonry is well-known among people; it is a secret group. Outwardly, they display sympathy and noble manners, claiming that Islam brought what is customary and encourages benevolence toward the poor and needy. However, inwardly (in reality), they call for the rejection of religions, commands, and prohibitions, and that people should remain in their primitive state—with no God, no Lord, no Prophet, no Sharia (Divine laws), and nothing else.
In other words, inwardly they wage war against divine laws, commands, and prohibitions, so that man remains the brother of man simply because he is a son of Adam and nothing more, like a beast—eating with him, drinking with him, and cooperating with him in accordance with his whims, without any Sharia (Divine laws), commands, or prohibitions.
This is what they hold in secret. As for what they display outwardly, they only call for brotherhood and cooperation.
