The Prohibition of Giving Fatwas Without Knowledge

Question:

Some young people rush into giving “religious verdicts” (fatwas) even though they have only acquired a basic level of education. What is the ruling on rushing and hastening to issue fatwas without knowledge?

Answer:

This is unlawful and impermissible. It is speaking about Allah without knowledge, which is even greater than shirk (associating partners with Allah, polytheism). Allah, the Glorious and Exalted, said:

“Say (O Muhammad ﷺ): ‘(But) the things that my Lord has indeed forbidden are Al-Fawahish (great evil sins, every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse, etc.) whether committed openly or secretly, sins (of all kinds), unrighteous oppression, joining partners (in worship) with Allah for which He has given no authority, and saying things about Allah of which you have no knowledge’“ [Al-A’raf: 33]

Therefore, it is more severe, and we seek refuge in Allah.
