Question:
Eminent Shaykh, You spoke about the obligation of adhering to the Book (the Qur’an) and the Sunnah, but there is a group that is, or is called “the Quranists” (al-Quraniyyoon). What should our stance be toward them?
Answer:
As previously mentioned, they are not Quranists. Rather, they are liars and enemies of the Qur’an. This is because the Qur’an commands adherence to the Sunnah and commands obedience to the Messenger ﷺ.
Whoever rejects the Sunnah has rejected the Qur’an, and whoever disobeys the Messenger has disobeyed the Qur’an. Therefore, they are not Quranists; rather, they are against the Qur’an, heretics and misguided. In fact, they are disbelievers by the consensus of the scholars.
Anyone who rejects the Sunnah, refuses to act upon it, and claims that they only act upon the Qur’an is a liar who has not truly acted upon the Qur’an. Such a person is misguided person who misguides others, and a disbeliever according to the consensus of the scholars.
