Question:
Honorable Shaykh, what do you advise us in this day and age, in which fitan (tribulations) have multiplied, Ahl al-Bid’ah (people of bid’ah) have spread, and scholars are passing away?
Answer:
First and foremost, I advise you to fear Allah, the Glorified and Exalted, and to supplicate abundantly that Allah keeps us and you steadfast upon the religion, and that He protects us and you from the evil of fitan.
Secondly, I advise you to seek knowledge, to seek knowledge from the people of knowledge (the scholars), and to be eager in seeking knowledge. For indeed, nothing protects against fitan, by Allah’s permission, except correct (sound) sound knowledge. If you do not possess sound knowledge, you might fall into fitan without even realizing it or knowing that they are fitan. You must seek knowledge from the people of knowledge, and do not be lazy in seeking knowledge as much as you possibly can.
