Question:
Some exhibitions are organized to illustrate the wounds and suffering of Muslims in Palestine and elsewhere. These exhibitions feature images of the wounded and the deceased, and sometimes these are displayed via video. The intent behind this is to urge Muslims to donate to their brothers. Is this practice permissible?
Answer:
This practice is inappropriate. It is not permissible to display images of the wounded. Instead, Muslims should be invited to give charity to their brothers and informed that they are in distress and undergoing what they are undergoing due to the actions of the Jews — without displaying images or showing the wounded. This is because such a practice involves the use of photography/depiction, and it also constitutes a form of affectation (unnecessary burdening) that Allah the Exalted has not commanded.
Furthermore, it undermines the morale and strength of the Muslims; when you display images of a Muslim who has been mutilated or whose limbs have been severed before the people, it terrifies the Muslims and makes them fear the actions of the enemy. The duty of Muslims is not to manifest weakness, nor to display injuries or such matters. Rather, they should keep them concealed so as not to weaken the resolve and unity of the Muslims.
