Question:

Is there a treatment for infertility? Can an infertile person have children if they supplicate (pray) to Allah, Almighty and Exalted, even knowing that doctors have told them they will never be able to conceive?

Answer:

As for what Allah, Almighty and Exalted, has decreed, there is no one who can change it, as Allah Almighty said: “And Allah judges, there is none to put back His Judgement..” [ar-Ra’d 13:41].

Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, has clarified that to Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and that He does what He wills. He, the Blessed and Exalted, said: “To Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He creates what He wills. He bestows female (offspring) upon whom He wills, and bestows male (offspring) upon whom He wills. Or He bestows both males and females, and He renders barren whom He wills. Verily, He is the All-Knower and is Able to do all things.” [ash-Shura’ 42:49-50)

These are four categories:

  1. First, that Allah Almighty grants a man males and no females are born to him.
  2. Second, that He grants him females and no males are born to him.
  3. Third, that He ‘pairs’ them—meaning He diversifies them into both males and females, so the person has both sons and daughters.
  4. Fourth, that He makes whom He wills barren, having neither males nor females. This is how Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, has categorized creation.

Thus, for whomever Allah has decreed to be barren, it is not possible for them to give birth. But for whomever Allah has decreed a delay in childbearing or conception, they may perhaps conceive through Du’a (supplication) or through medical treatments and medicines.
