Question:
May Allah bless you. This inquirer, who signs his name with the initials A. A. R. from the Eastern Province, says: I have heard and read that any Muslim who dies on Friday or during the night before it will have a good status [with Allah]. What is your opinion on this? May you be rewarded.
Answer:
This hadith narrated regarding the virtue of dying on Friday is not Sahih (authentic). This is because a person is only rewarded for an action they performed themselves and in which they had a choice. A person dying on Friday is not by their own choice; if death comes to them, they cannot change it. Yes, if death comes to them on Thursday, they cannot delay it until Friday, and if their appointed time is on Saturday, they cannot bring it forward to Friday. Every hadith narrated regarding the virtue of dying on a specific day is not authentic, because reward is only for actions that are performed by the servant by their own free choice.
