Defining 'Wahhabism': The Reality Behind the Label

Question:

What is “Wahhabism”?

Answer:

“Wahhabism”: A term used by the opponents of Shaykh Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab (may Allah have mercy on him) to refer to his call to purify monotheism (Tawhid) from polytheistic practices and to reject all paths except the path of Muhammad ibn Abdullah (peace be upon him). Their intent behind this label is to alienate people from his call and turn them away from what he advocated. However, this did not harm the call; rather, it increased its spread across horizons and heightened the eagerness for it among those whom Allah has granted success to further research the true nature of the call, its objectives, and the evidence from the Quran and authentic Sunnah upon which it is based. Consequently, their adherence to it grew stronger, they held fast to it, and they began inviting others to it, and all praise is due to Allah.

And Allah is the Granter of success. May Allah bestow His blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
