Question:
Concerning the saying of the Prophet ﷺ in the Hadith: “Whoever among you sees an evil, let him change it…“ up to his saying: “and beyond that there is not even a mustard seed’s weight of faith”. Does this mean that the one who does not object to an evil—even if it is a sin—has no faith whatsoever, or that his faith is [merely] deficient?
Answer:
If he does not object to the evil—if he says, “There is nothing wrong with it,” [such as saying] fornication is fine, theft is fine, and does not view it as an evil—then he is a disbeliever who denies Allah and His Messenger. So if he makes the unlawful lawful, makes the lawful unlawful, says there is nothing wrong with it, and that it is all the same, and does not object to the unlawful, then he becomes a disbeliever: “and beyond that there is not even a mustard seed’s weight of faith.”
Therefore, the one who condones unlawful things, views them as permissible, or considers them to be of no consequence, becomes a disbeliever.
