Answer:

Revering and respecting the Prophet is done solely by: believing in everything he brought from Allah, following his Shariah in creed, speech, action, and character, and abstaining from introducing innovations (bid’ah) into the religion. Celebrating the birthday of the Prophet (peace be upon him) is considered an innovation in the religion.
