Question:

Seeking refuge in Allah (ta’awwudh) and saying Bismillah (basmalah) before the Adhan—is there any basis for it?

​Answer:

We know of no basis that indicates the legality of seeking refuge in Allah and saying Bismillah before the Adhan, neither for the muezzin nor for the one who hears it.

It is authentically established that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever performs an action that is not in accordance with our matter, it will be rejected.”

And in another narration: “Whoever introduces into this matter of ours something that is not from it, it will be rejected.”

And Allah is the Grantor of success. May Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
