The Source of Governance: The Quran and the Sunnah
King Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al Saud—may Allah Almighty have mercy on him—said:
Among the blessings of Allah upon this country and its people is that He established for them their religion which He has approved for them, replaced their fear with security, and that they worship Him alone without associating anything with Him. Therefore, the Noble Quran and the purified Prophetestic Sunnah have been, and remain, the source of governance and legislation in this country until Allah inherits the earth and those upon it. This is due to our complete belief that in adhering to both, in word and deed, lies our success, our salvation, our progress, our advancement, our development, and our prosperity. Ever since Allah bestowed upon His Majesty King Abdulaziz—may Allah have mercy on him—the blessing of unifying this Kingdom, gathering its scattered parts under the banner of “There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah” and “Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah,” he set before his eyes: establishing justice, spreading security and prosperity, calling to Allah, and following the path of the great Messenger and the righteous Salaf (al-Salaf al-Salih), relying in that upon his faith in Allah, striving in His cause, and supporting His word.
