Prince Nayef bin Abdul-Aziz al-Saud—may Allah Almighty have mercy on him—said:

O brothers, the consequences were painful and the offense was bitter when the deviant group departed from the teachings of the Islamic creed, killed the innocents, violated the sanctuaries of Muslims and non-Muslims, and unjustly and aggressively destroyed their wealth and property—an offense to this religion far exceeding what the enemies of religion and its opponents could have ever dreamed of. All of this happened when belief became corrupted among the deviant group of those who claim affiliation to Islam while Islam is entirely innocent of them… Nor do we rule out that there are entities hostile to Islam in general, and hostile to our state—the state of the Sunnah and the state that follows the path of the righteous predecessors (al-Salaf al-Salih). We are a Salafi state and proud of this, and Salafism is not a madhhab (school of thought)… The Salafi methodology is what the Messenger of Allah taught us… and our state has been the state of the righteous predecessors since its inception by the founder of the First State, Muhammad bin Saud, when he placed his hand in the hand of Sheikh Muhammad ibn Abdulwahhab, thus establishing the First Saudi State. Following the Second State, which was founded by Turki bin Abdullah—which was fought against until it ended—came the Third State, founded by King Abdulaziz, who united the nation and whose very first concern was knowledge, so he sent scholars everywhere to educate the people and correct all erroneous matters. There are those who disparage our state, attribute non-existent negatives to our Salafi methodology, and search for trivial flaws to blow out of proportion—which we read even in our newspapers and on some channels. These matters must be confronted with correct knowledge, by those capable of speaking on this matter and by the jurists of the Ummah (Muslim nation).

قال الأمير نايف بن عبدالعزيز رحمه الله تعالى: أيها الإخوة : لقد كانت العواقب مؤلمة والإساءة مريرة حينما خرجت الفئة الضالة عن تعاليم العقيدة الإسلامية وقتلوا الأبرياء وانتهكوا حرمات المسلمين وغير المسلمين ودمروا أموالهم وممتلكاتهم ظلماً وعدواناً، إساءة الى هذا الدين على النحو الذي يفوق ما كان يحلم به أعداء الدين ومخالفوه، كل ذلك حينما انحرف الاعتقاد لدى الفئة الضالة ممن ينتمون للإسلام والإسلام منهم براء... ولا نستبعد أن هناك جهات معادية للإسلام بشكل عام ومعادية لدولتنا دولة السنة والدولة التي تنهج نهج السلف الصالح فنحن دولة سلفية وتعتز بهذا والسلفية ليست مذهباً ... والنهج السلفي هو ما علمناه رسول الله ... ودولتنا دولة السلف الصالح منذ أن قامت من مؤسسة الدولة الأولى محمد بن سعود حين وضع يده في يد الشيخ محمد بن عبدالوهاب فقامت الدولة السعودية الأولى. وبعد الدولة الثانية التي أسسها تركي بن عبدالله حوربت حتى انتهت وجاءت الدولة الثالثة التي أسسها الملك عبدالعزيز فوحد الأمة وأول ما اهتم به هو العلم فأرسل العلماء لكل مكان كي يفقهوا الناس ويصححو كل الأمور الخطأ. هناك من يقدح في دولتنا ويحمل نهجنا السلفي سلبيات ليست موجودة ويبحث عن سلبيات تافهة ويضخمها وهذا نقرأه حتى في صحفنا وفي بعض القنوات ويجب أن تواجه هذه الأمور بالعلم الصحيح والقادرين على الحديث في هذا الأمر ومن فقهاء الأمة.
