Question:

What is the ruling regarding a child of zina if the father confesses [to paternity], but the mother is not married?

Answer:

The lineage of the child is not established for the adulterer through zina, based on the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: ‘The child belongs to (the owner of) the bed [the legal husband], and for the adulterer there is stoning.’

It is permissible for the adulterer to marry the adulteress after the expiration of the waiting period (iddah) and sincere repentance.
