Question:
Some muadhins, upon finishing the Fajr “call to prayer” (adhan) and reciting the prescribed supplication, say over the microphone: “Pray, may Allah guide you.” Some people object to this, while others pray for him. What is the ruling regarding this matter?
Answer:
Allah Almighty said: “This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion.” [Al-Ma’idah: 3].
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever introduces into this matter of ours (Islam)that which is not from it, it is rejected.”
It has also been reported from some of the righteous Salaf (predecessors) that they said: “Follow and do not innovate, for you have been given sufficient guidance.”
Accordingly, a Muslim should, in matters of worship, restrict themselves to what has been authentically legislated and not add to it under the guise of personal preference or good intention. Had it been good, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would have informed us about it, practiced it himself, or his companions would have practiced it during and after his time.
Thus, the answer to the question becomes clear: one should restrict the adhan to what is legally established in its form, and any additions to it are considered bid’ah (an innovation).
And Allah knows best. Allah is the Grantor of success. May Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
