The Prohibition of Adding Names to the Adhan and Safeguarding Acts of Worship from Innovation

Question:

How do some Muslims place the name of Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) into the Adhan and Iqamah, and did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) or his Companions ever do that?

Answer:

The Adhan is an act of worship (‘ibadah), and all acts of worship are restricted to what has been legislated. Neither during the era of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) nor during the era of the Rightly Guided Caliphs was the name of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned in the Adhan or the Iqamah, nor was it ever legislated. Rather, it was innovated by the Rawafid (Shia), as is their habit with bid’ah (innovations).

“Ahl as-Sunnah” (the People of the Sunnah) do not practice this; on the contrary, they condemn those who do it, in order to protect Islamic legislation from innovations and safeguard it against them.

And Allah is the Grantor of success. May Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
